This looks absurdly long, but the bill on the adult is almost half again as long as on this juvie. Captured as the last rays of the sun raked across Moss Landing Beach one evening 2 years ago. Full-frame. Removed just a few oof shells.

    D7000, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/640s @ f/7.1 manual. Lying flat on the beach.

Superb light and pose. The bird's head has a slight tilt but for me it is of no consequence. It is clearly focusing on something and to me looks quite endearing. I like the leg up pose:) Top drawer image IMHO.

Brilliant capture, Bill. The afternoon light adds so much richness to the feathers. Love the smooth sand and his raised foot with a little motion blur.

Excellent image!! Great light quality, the walking pose is just right. Details, and overall processing look A-1. What looks like a dust bunny directly in front of the raised foot could be eliminated, but other than that I like everything else as is.

Great look at this species Bill. The profile pose shows off that ultra long bill and the colors and details look great too. Well done

I knew this bird would be the one to take August's theme to the limit!! Very nice lighting, good composition and good details. I like the mid-stride pose. Very nice.

Hi Bill, you have overdone with the theme on this one. Love the light and colours, cool walking pose, and your low perspective works very well. Great capture Bill.
