Don't normally like conifers but I thought this rather pleasant. Coming down to a temporary pool- 14 inches across.

Beautiful image, nice pose, perch and composition, John. I might see some noise in the background, but not sure.

A very fine image, John, and I surely love that pose and the color palette. Wouldn't mind seeing the crop just a tad looser.

Simply beautiful, John. Wonderful colors, quality of light, and the detail in the eye. Like the perch and the birds concentration on the pool.

A very striking image! The bird's pose is quite nice and you've captured the fine details in the feathers. The DOF is really wonderful. The spruce in the foreground creates an excellent perch and frame for the image. And the OOF spruce in the upper left corner balances the image nicely. And finally the greens and browns offer a very pleasing color palette.

Really nice, sharp and well exposed. I like the percha and all the green surrounding this bird. Great pose for the bird also. I actually would prefer to have the OOF spruce cloned out in the upper left as I feel it is a bit too in focus and distracts my eye a bit. However, I see Karen feels differently so of course it is a matter of taste and personal preference. Overall great shot.

A nice example John. I like the spruce in the top left, but the lower right ones spoil things a little as they are too far OOF. I suppose the only way of dealing with it would be to change your shooting position to more of a 90 degree angle to the perch, but obviously I don't know if thats practical or not.

regarding the bird itself, it's a very nice specimen in a nice pose

Striking bird on a very appealing perch! I'm glad you ignored your dislike of conifers for this one. I like the bird's pose here, almost ready to jump off and into the pool below. I'm used to seeing "evergreens" greener than what we see here, I was not there to see this one and perhaps the colour is accurate, but I added some cyan to the yellow channel for this result...

    Thanks people.
Cheers Daniel. To be honest I can't see a lot of difference but I am slightly red/green colour blind. Looks fine to me.
