I clipped this one, and was going to bin it, but I liked the blend of the sea going into the sky in the BG. So I cropped the image, but not really sure if it works?

I chose this crop, as there was too much missing on the birds right wing, for me to 'add'. What do you think?

    Thanks for looking

Nice catch for both of you, Will. I would try to remove the blue cast from the fish and I might consider to experiment with a horizontal crop as well.

Thanks for the comments, Karl. I was thinking on a horizontal, but I wanted to keep more of the BG in the frame, esp the bottom. It was the 1DMk4 I was using and not the 5D Mk3, I edited the post, (just that use to putting 5D Mk3 ) The terns make a really great test for the Mk4 as you will know

Good that you got the 1D MIV, Will.
It is a good camera, I'm using the second copy now.
Terns are very challenging to shoot.

The composition is fine. I could easily see this used in a magazine. I might just remove or reduce the bluish colour on the border of the bird's cap below the eye. It's not significant or a deal breaker though.

    Agree with the comments.
    Nice shot Will
The first thing I thought was "horizontal" but looks OK like this.

Will it looks very good to me, only a tiny nit but I think I might try and try and lift the brightness in the eye just a tad, the shades you have on the top of the wing is super.

Good image, well caught, inclusion of the fish makes it much more interesting than just TIF. I personally might try a horizontal crop and remove more of the right wing but still include the blue color transition in the background. Here is my crop suggestion.

It would obviously look better cropped from the original as I'm losing a lot of data cropping the jpeg.

I like the vertical comp. Do you have a sliver more on RHS to include all of the tail feather?
Love the BG blues and can see why you wanted to do something with the image.
Did you have to lift the shadows a lot in PP? The belly seems very noisy and I see a sharpening halo around the belly.
The fish head would benefit from some burning.

Thanks for the comments guys. Hi Geoff, I may try that crop, the IQ should hold. Gail, I do have a wee bit more on the RHS but I was thinking about the position of the head in the frame. I did lift the shadows a little.

    Much appreciated

    Will
