Very appropriate in keeping with the recent National Geographic television show. Makes on wonder is it love or hate? Nice, interesting image of Dowitchers. Well done, Gail. Thank you for sharing.

I haven't seen your previous post, but this is awesome. I once took a series of photographs of some western sandpipers fighting like this, but they were very small in the frame. Love the low angle, nice light, eye contact and the "Matrix" suspended attack. Did you clone something out from the top right corner? TFS.

Hi Lorant,
I didn't clone anything out but I do see what you are seeing- that green irregular blob? Not sure what it is except possibly an OOF plant.
Thanks for commenting on my pic. Much appreciated.

Spectacular action, I love the comp, the sharpness and shooting angle. Well done Gail.

Gail:
I also really like the martial arts feel to this encounter, high kicking, head knocking aggression.
Framing works well, nice colors.
Between the two, I find this one more unusual and more compelling, even if the head angle of the top bird is "not correct"
I would consider softening the edge of the green blob. Even though it is all natural, it does make one wonder what was done there!
Cheers

Just looked at the first one and despite of it is being sharper, I still like this one better Gail.

Like this image, real sense of being there at the action, water splashes and feet flying. Have seen black tailed godwits doing something similar, quite ferocious when they start.

Superb drama and the backdrop colours are wonderful. It is a pity you were not able to shoot at a 1/4 angle to your left since the drama would have filled the frame more and you would have had both heads clearly visible...but you can only shoot what is in front of you and choosing best position is sometimes just a lottery.

Great action shot gail.
I echo whats been said. You have to grab whats there ! Can't plan shots like this.
Great stuff
Nice low angle too !

Super action...not easy to catch without clipping wings. No problem at all with the head angle, the look of the bottom bird tells the story perfectly.

What a cool image. Great action/interaction captured. I like everything about it, just saw your question about your other post so will go have a look at that one and see which I like better.

Update: Just went and viewed the first image. I like this one better even though we don't see the one birds head that well it is still way more dramatic and a better image to my eyes compared to the 1st.
