A mallard came a little too close, prompting this young individual to stretch and hold this pose for a few seconds towards. It seemed more like a threat posture than a stretch, but then it did do this again later on while all by itself.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp, darkened the rock as well as eliminated a few dirty spots on it.
What an interesting pose with the wings up and seeing the feathers underneath! Pleasing HA and eye. Technicals are spot-on. I really appreciate the fine feather details via f8, especially since you also got a creamy and complimentary background. Maybe just a tad more space on the right....but it darn good just the way it is!
Nicely detailed and an interesting pose. I don't think it matters a great deal but I suspect a small space between the chin and the rock would have been preferential.
Now that is a vibrant background Dan, certainly provides 'pop'. Like the body posture and the downward position of the head/neck almost echoing the rock, but agree with Jon about a hint of space for separation, but that's in an ideal world. Techs to your usual standard, love the fine detail in the serrated bill.
Hi Dan, great eye level capture here, and love the 'aggressive' pose from the youngster. I like all the lines in this, curved perch, and the curvature of the little guy from the tip of his tail, all the way along to the tip of the beak.
