I was on my way home from a charity for Breast Cancer that I work on every year and I made several stops at the local wildlife refuges, here is a shot from my way home.

As presented is a bit tight in frame. Working in rehab places is difficult obtaining a good bg. If you are unable to come up with one might want to go for head portraits, isolating feet etc There is also a cast from something reflecting or lights? Should be easy to correct !!
Will be moving this one to the other bird gallery since it is a captive bird.
Stuart congratulations from me as well on the fund raising. Al has given you some great advice. I'll also comment on the "steel eye" on the bird caused by your flash. Some selective cloning should be able to remove it.

I too congrat you on the fund raising. Refuges are often difficult to work in so you take what you can get. I would definitely work on removing the "steel eye". If you had a little more room to add, that would be good as well.
