    Default Osprey flyby

Canon 5D3, 300mm f/2.8 IS + 2X III. ISO 1000, 1/2500 at f/6.3. Hand held, M exposure. I haven't given up the 7D2 and 100-400 but was letting a friend try it as an upgrade from her old 7D and 70-300. The "baby 600" is quite manageable for hand holding but there is a slight loss of sharpness with the 2X. I hear the new one is better. Don't tell me....

Basic simple tonal stuff in LR and into PS to remove two OOF utility lines behind the bird. Patched a torn place in a wing feather and composited a darker raw conversion for more detail in the whites. A touch of NR and sharpening, hardly noticeable here. Darkened a brighter area on the wing from reflecting light.

Like the frame, wings position and BG tone. Well managed exposure and PP. If mine I would try to decrease a bit the brightness of the white feather above the eye. Well done flight shot. TFS.

    Cheers,

Thanks everyone! I've pulled out all there is in the whites on top of the head -- wish there was more information there but the light was harsh and that area is badly overexposed. I'm happy to trade it for underwing detail, though.

Hi Diane, great view of the far wing, the feather detail shows up nicely, together with that fierce looking beak. I agree, when shooting up to the sky, always shoot plus to get detail on the underwings. Of course, each bird species would require different settings to achieve the same result.
