I captured this image at Circle B Bar Reserve in Polk County, Florida. I thought it would be a good entry in the theme for this month. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Hi Joe, very 'punk' in his appearance, love the flash of the funky hair do, great to see the claws as he perches on the stump!

The perch looks to have suffered a little in PP, I've got an idea which may help, pointless to expand if it doesn't work, can do that later, will drop you a line.

Hi Steve, thanks for viewing and commenting. Wondering what you see in the perch? I think it may have occurred because of the point curve I needed to get the exposure of the bird, very unusual shape with the black, white, and red. Thinking now I could probably work on the perch with a local adjustment.

I think it now has a bit more 'weight & presence' but it's just my take, WDYT? Hopefully others will chime in with thoughts so you can distill and tweak even further if need be.

You made me have to think/work Joe when I have to type stuff out, most of the things I do just follow a path or POV and on 'auto' pilot .

Hanging out here is really a treat! I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to look for in an image....NOT! I would have never noticed something "off" about the perch until Steve mentioned it! And then Joe "gets it" and improves the image in his repost!

Upon first viewing the image, I liked the subtle details retained in the black part of the bird and the "punk" hairdo! Also, the curved line along the back of his head down to his tail is pleasing to me. And of course, nicely focused. Nice job, Joe!

Hi Joe. Great Pileated capture, with the perfect haircut, and great perch. The repost helps. The whole image seems very contrasty to me, which makes it graphically compelling and suits the theme nicely, but I'm wondering if a version with a bit less contrast in both bird and perch would be worth trying.

Lovely capture Joe. Nice details on the bird, and fab perch. Like the repost better. The white BG really shows of the head.

Wonderful high key look to the image. I like the comp and that hair do. Nice suggestions by Steve.

The perch definitely looks better with more details in the bright parts. Well done with the exposure. I like the view of the feet and the funky hairdo is neatly fiery! The blacks, although sharp, seem a bit smooth...NR?
