In these dog days of summer, birding in our area is sparse. But a morning or evening visit to the local grasslands rewards one with the songs of a number of summer visitors, including this Indigo Bunting. A birding friend refers to him as the Shakespeare Bird, since he sings in couplets: "Fire Fire, Where Where, Here Here". He tends to like the juncture of field and forest edge, and the invasive Multiflora Rose makes a convenient perch from which to sing.
