    Default Hyena cub

    Attached Images Attached Images

Another from the series of images of the hyena cubs we shot & spent an enjoyable time with, this one was just lying at the entrance to the den. At the time of the shot he/she was looking direct to camera, but then distracted by his brothers & sisters playing, hence the head turn. Sadly no time to change format to a landscape one and so the cub could look 'into' the space.

Hi Steve - Excellent detail and tones as always. FDof works but this one just doesn't excite me as much as some of your others from this sighting. In addition to wanting more space to the left I also want a slightly higher pov to see the front paws more. Of course, it's easy for us to say in hindsight going horizontal with more space on both sides would have worked better. Sorry.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Thanks guys, as I mentioned in my intro, going landscape would have been better, agreed, but you either miss a shot, or try to make the most of what you have, seconds later he/she turned to camera based on the subsequent .

Lovely image, Steve. The detail in the fur is excellent, very pleasing background color to compliment the Hyena. A treat for me, never having seen this animal close up. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful image Steve. The details and colours are lovely. Looks as though you can reach out and give that fur a wee rub. Thanks for sharing

Steve, the colours, detail and sharpness is spot on so is the PP as usual. The HA and comp isn't as captivating but hey you did the best you can.

Thanks folks, I must admit poor Rachel had to endure these sighting too, especially when I would question other opportunities.

Will/Joseph, you should think about Wildlife, there is nothing different to Avian, and it will broaden your skill set & fieldcarft, think about those 'reds', seals, deer Will, Joe the Racoon, Deer (?) etc.

Sanjeev I would agree about the HA not being captivating, but sometimes it's nice just to share .

Beautiful light and detail, the head angle works for me with the side profile. Of course a landscape format would have been nicer, but you work with whats available, and to be fair, the image is strong enough to work as presented

Loving the detail and soft light with pleasing colours here Steve.
I agree with comments above about space, orientation, but also about your comment on just wanting to share. That's why we post here - to share, to learn, to be inspired and to hopefully inspire others too - if not to improve their photography only, to also broaden their travel horizons eh?

    Hello Steve!

I am back, happy to spend this Monday evening viewing the latest BPN images, this is so far the sharpest and cleanest I have seen and I just love the IQ and colours!

Superb detail as well as expression from this youngster...I agree, a tad more space on the LHS would not hurt but I would give anything to have this in my folders, just as is
Techs spot-on and I just love the DOF...this is priceless Steve, one of your best hyena shots IMO

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
