    Default Killdeer Broken Wing Display.

While walking along a gravel road a Killdeer suddenly popped out of nowhere and began doing its' famed "broken wing" display to try and ward me off of either a nest or young. I inspected the area thoroughly, but could not see any nest on the ground...but when I looked towards where it came from...TADA!...two little young ones, no more than a day or two old, standing very still near tall grasses. They were too far for photos, which is OK because it was time to back away anyhow and leave them the space to continue with their day...

Canon 7D + 500m f/4 ii + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for composition (about 75% FF), darkened some of the rocks as well as the brighter "horizon" line.

Lovely Daniel, the efforts to protect the young constantly amaze. A couple of years past Dottie and I had a Wild Turkey hen do the same thing, pop out of the nearby vegetation and try to lead us away from her chicks. Thank you for sharing.

Terrific image Dan. I like the very low angle, the head above the ground in the frame. Wonderful eye contact and detail.

Very nicely captured Daniel. The low POV has help minimize the impact of the bird's shadow, great eye details, everything technically spot on. Regards, Ian.

Hi Daniel, love the eye and the low POV. The dark Bg makes the bird popped. Thank you for sharing the story. Loi

Hi Daniel - Nice light and I really like the colors of the feathers against the grey bg, Makes the bird pop. Great low pov.

Gorgeous image with great IQ. Very nice "broken wing" display and nice story too.
    As usual every thing perfect.
    Love the frame, Daniel Sir.
