    Default One on Hay

Its made a nice change to move away from trying for action shots with the owls this last week......this gives me the chance to do a lot more watching rather than photographing the birds. I do like the action shots but I always feel that my mind is always on the next shot and I miss a lot what's actually going on around me ...canon 500mm F4 AT 5.6 ISO 640 1/1000 SEC +1/3 EV ....ps Non baited shot Name: little-owl-10th-July-2015-on-hay-(1-of-1)-5.jpgedit-resize.jpg

Hi Dennis, nice clean BG, good sharpness on the bird and I really like the feather sticking up on the back. Is there a reason you went with a square crop? (Just looks a little too centred for my liking). TFS

Great shot of this little guy, well-lit with clean BG and perfect stare. I also like the errant feather. I could imagine a sliver off the bottom and a bit added to the right, as an alternate format.

Very nice shot, love the large fully open eyes and fine feather details. The loose feather adds a touch of interest.

I agree that loose feather adds a touch of interest...neat! Excellent BG. I see there is a bit of stump showing through the dry grass. I'd probably clone out the piece of debris near the bill. I could see a version with a bit more room at right. I love the head turn with the body pointing sideways...

Hi Dennis, lovely eye contact, and like everyone else, I do like the wind swept feather on his back. Thats a killer smooth BG, and I would maybe tone down the nest a touch - seems a wee bit bright.

I agree on sometimes just observing nature, but its pretty difficult when you have a camera in your hands.
