That's a terrific shot of a snipe, maybe lift the darkest areas a tad. Albeit a man made perch a very natural scene.
You wish to consider a crop just above the wire on the RHS of the post and then patch clone the wire on the left.

I was just about to post my thought, then read Jons comments, to which I agree. I'd also consider lightening the eye a touch and maybe softening the edges on the oof grass stalk 1/3 of the way in from the right as well.

That said, I do like the shot, the Snipe is in a nice position and the BG is beautiful, almost like an old impressionistic painting

Hi Keith, again you've nailed this species, nice one.

The natural backdrop works nicely and compliments the subject well IMHO. Good detail overall and I like the catchlight in the eye, subtle, but the eye has great content too. Nice HA for me and it illustrates that long beak well. I also like the 'weathered/lichen' perch, provides a nice textural object in the overall composition. The wire, well as said it's part of the scene, personally I wouldn't crop, but in this instance remove (very quickly done Keith as I'm away), however when you compare the two, I think the OP works, you can easily blend the grass stalk and think you should. Nice to see you keeping a high SS.

Your Snipes in the open blow my mind, never see one like that here. Lovely image, Keith. Thank you for sharing.

I really like what Steve has done here. What a difference it makes. I do believe you have a # of snipe images which are stronger than this one though.

Hi Keith, love the head turn here, sort of like he's listening to you. Great view of his bill, and I like the weathered perch. Steve's repost takes it to another level.

Great capture Keith and what lovely colours on the bird. The perch without the wire really lifts this image up a level. Good work and thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot guys will be a bit uncertain now about removing wires, but it's interesting reading the views of others, perhaps Marina as a point re the strength of the image.

    Cheers Keith.
