You've been hanging out at the same sort of spot I have! And getting the same white skies and cleaned fish, I see.

A very nice pose and wonderfully sharp -- that must be a great lens for them.

Hey Mike Nice framing on the shot. A very nice view of the fish, wings and tail feathers. The eye is beautifully sharp. and good sharpness throughout. The osprey looks a little washed, may try reducing the exposure, while masking the black on the cheek as it looks plenty dark.

nice pose with the fish, good exposure and sharp details too. I wish the shooting angle was a bit less steep or at least the HA was a bit better. Having the bird eye level with the viewer, where possible, can dramatically increase its impact

    Mike:

Classic osprey with the head eaten off the fish. Nice wing spread, head free of merge, wing diagonals work the frame.

Agree about the washed out feel, almost as if a bit foggy. I would try moving the black slider a bit to the left, as I suspect the blacks are in the 30-40 range as posted.

    Cheers

You have nailed the bird well IMHO. The head is in line with the axis of the bird's body and the bird's right wing is nicely positioned. However the image has in my humble opinion an overall washed out appearance except for the area around the birds lores but it is only slight and is an easy fix. I think that there should be a little more red showing in the butchered part of the fish perhaps?

Mike I take the points mentioned above but must say I would be very pleased if I had taken this.

First of all, thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Some have mentioned it looking a bit washed out, so I've tried again with a slightly different processing baring in mind the above comments. I'd be interested if people think this is an improvement or not

    Mike:

Overall the repost is better. Perhaps just a bit too much contrast on my monitor, but pretty close.

Thanks Randy. I agree I might have gone a bit too far, all part of the learning process!

Lovely shot Mike well caught, I would suggest an exposure about half way between the two posts.

You've caught me on a rest day from work, so here's my third effort.

That's better - I see detail in the birds legs and also on the fish, that's a belter!
