Here's a mid-morning shot I took of two Bald Eagles about to mate near their nest just outside of Llano, Texas on 3/12/05. I removed a few stray branches from the limbs to make the image cleaner. The birds are about 130 yards off the road so I had to do some cropping to get this composition. The female was an older bird and her eyes and beak weren't as bright as the male's.

Marvin, great pose and timing. And excellent IQ for that lens/TC combo. The crop looks good to me, and the top eagle's foreground wing doesn't quite come far enough forward to obscure the head, though I might like it back just a bit farther to put the head completely in the clear. Can't you talk to those eagles and get them to cooperate and pose again?
Because of the poor light angle, I'd work in shadows/highlights to bring more detail into the shadows and lighten them a bit, as well as adding detail to the birds' heads. Probably some NR on the shadows would be in order then, too.
