    Hi There

Shot of "Lark" the Peregrine Falcon at my usual shooting location of the Hawk Conservancy here in the UK. Those of you that follow my posts will know that I really enjoy trying to capture shots of the smaller faster falcons in flight like the Peregrine & Lanner.

One of the shots I would love to capture is with his wings folded back into the classic "teardrop" shape as he stoops to the lure...and really picks up speed. He is usually to high up when he does this, so even with a 500mm lens it's still a monster crop so you lose detail.

The other sort of shot I enjoy is a dynamic action shot of the bird at closer range, again as he jinks to try and hit the lure. the problem I find with those sort of shots is pretty much the opposite of the teardrop shot....this time he is too close and moving really fast so even keeping him in the viewfinder is very difficult.

After dozens of visits to HCT this shot is the closest I have come to capturing the latter sort of picture... he was close to me...nice oof trees in the background rather than the plain blue or white sky.... bit of sunlight to lift the colours....kept him in the finder..

But alas I clipped the top of his right wing, and the focus is not razor on the eye....:(

Still after 30,000 shots I am getting closer......:p

That's what I love about Bird Photography....you can go to the same place time after time and you just never know if you are going to get a chance at "The Shot" or at least "The Shot" on that particular visit...

Agree with your assessment John and still is an awesome image !!! I like the wing position and particularly the bg. Its very close on the sharpness for the head, at this size it looks very good. Hope you can get the entire wing next time !!! What a great place you have for these raptors !!!!

Each week you have nice images.....and do get closer. Your critique is on the money. The light was really nice for this one.....certainly brings out all the great detail. Well done.
