    Default Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus)

Captured this image while in Lima, Peru. Conditions were overcast. This passerine is in the tyrant flycatcher family, and most flycatchers being a bit drab, this Vermilion Flycatcher is quite the exception. C&C welcome.

    D4s, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 tc, 1/1250s, f 5.6, ISO 800, Manual, Monopod.

Very nice. The eye is so nice and clear.
Good DOF and nice and sharp.
I find the angle a little bit steep and if you cropped from the bottom to shorten the stick and changed this to a landscape orientation, it would fool the eye into thinking you were closer to eye level.
I like the way you can see the legs through the feathers.
Small housekeeping issue- clone out the 2 black dots / smudge on the lower RHS of perch.
    Very nice,
    Gail

Very nice, Geoffrey. Wonderfully colorful bird that I have not seen before. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks very much, Gail. I started with a landscape, and here's a landscape upon your suggestion. I agree.

Beautiful little flycatcher, nicely captured. I like it in either orientation, but the repost does look a little less steep.

A great handling of the light and exposure. The steep angle hurts the image IMO.

I like the original best Geoffrey. Lovely colours, which stand out against the BG. Nice work and well captured

Nice pose and eye contact. The bright background is not always the best but it seems to be OK here.

What a nice looking bird. Well exposed with pleasing feather details! The perch in the repost seems a little short to me but the landscape orientation does focus attention on the bird. TFS!
