    Default Feed Me Brother!

This is from my trip with Dave Salem to shoot raptors in Wyoming with our friend Steve. This is the same Ferrugenious nest from Daves previous post. I thought this had a special "cute factor". We got several hundred images from this location on the last morning of our trip, This was a very classic nest on top of a columnar rock formation with a adjoining hill top that put us level with the nest. The parents were a dark phase female and a light phase male. Shot from a tripod, with my camera on a timer. D4 600mm with 1.4 tcIII, Aperture priority, F8, ISO 640 at 1/640 sec. Thanks for looking. The mother came in shortly after this to feed her 4 young with a ground squirrel. The BG is sage brush with an abundance of fresh bunch grass from many recent rains.

    Glenn:

Looks like he is visiting the dentist!

    Sig. cute factor, for sure.

I am not quite sure about your setup. Timer? Were you not pushing the button on the camera? Sorry if I missed something.

    Cheers

The timer was set to take an image every 6 sec, I pre-focused on the chicks and then left the area so the parents would come back without being disturbed by my presence, a hide would have been out of the question unless it was set up long before any nesting activity and they probably would not have selected this spot to nest with a hide set up because of the stark rock terrain

Nice detailed look at the chicks. I might take some off the bottom.

Cute indeed. Terrific capture, very well thought out and executed. Sharp and well exposed. I'm personally fine with the crop, and like the touch of lichen color.

Hi Glenn, I would say well timed, but you have stated that your camera was set every 6 seconds. No problem with that, as you have captured a perfect moment. The chicks do stand out against that clean BG, and coming up from the bottom to get away from the rocks wont harm the image.

Hi Glenn, very cute indeed. Thank you for explaining about the timer and it was great that you were mindful of not disturbing the nest. Not on the best monitor now, not sure if the white on the left chick a bit too hot. Loi

    Definitely cute!Love the poses.
Thanks for explaining how you took the image.
In a perfect world would love to have the LH chick turn his head slightly toward the camera to get a catchlight in the eye and his face out of the shadows but still awesome as is.
Why did you do a timer at every 6 seconds? Can you not have a remote trigger to depress the shutter when YOU wanted and not leave it to a random timer?

That was our original plan to use a remote trigger, but this nest was very exposed for miles and you could not get to a vantage spot where you could see the nest activity and still be unseen by the parents. Very remote area and parents were sensitive to approach from an extreme distance. Thanks for you comments

Great work considering the difficult conditions you had to face.

I cracked up the first time you showed me this. Good timing on the timer. That BG looks awesome with the white chicks. I agree on toning down the whites on the left chicks nape a bit. What a great opportunity we had at this pristine nest. Great frame. See ya soon
