Had the pleasure the other day of watching this Loon preen, do a bunch of splish-splashing, then afterward a few wing flaps and shake-off's. (the normal re-oiling process to keep them "waterproof".) Northern Michigan. Canon 70D, 100-400II, f7.1, ISO 400, ss 1/2000.

Great action, love the drops, bit more crop below maybe the only critique. I like it a lot.

    Sandy:

This is excellent, one of your best. Great sense of action, flying water, dynamic pose. Sharp, well exposed, perfect head angle.

    Effective shooting angle.

    Look forward to more!

    Cheers

    Exceptional action photo indeed.
If this is cropped, then I'd love more space to get more of the splashing water in the frame.
    Looks great though as presented.

Sandy agree about a bit more space but that apart I think this is excellent.

I love the pose and fresh looking water. I could go for less below and more above, but really an appealing image. Well done

Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions! Absolutely appreciated! Debated on the right crop and your ideas are, as always, extremely helpful. Was happy to get a somewhat decent HA... when the Loons are in this bathing mode, they are quite the contortion artists!

Very nice image. I like the HA and the nice clean water splashing around the wing. Lots of nice detail and the exposure and the whites look great. Well done

Thanks David and Diane! Diane... I totally love the lens! The weight and balance make it easy to hand-hold... (and seems to minimize my attempts at PP!) Photo'd the Thunderbirds the other day, even with a heavy haze from the wildfires in Canada hanging over us, I was very pleased with the results.
