On a family visit to my daughter & son-in-law I was informed that there was a really cute bird pair nesting in the front yard trees ....

Great looking bird for the front yard I suppose.

I'd take more off the top of the image and leave a sliver more behind its tail. Too much negative space there. The branch is a bit thick for the bird, but it's a natural perch, not a set-up, so I am happy to live with it.
Don't be afraid to shoot at higher ISOs with that camera. While it looks like you managed a sharp image, you could gain a touch more DOF as well as even shutter speed as long as you follow the basic digital exposure principles.
Shoot to the right, that is. You cannot go wrong.
    Thanks for sharing Bill

    Bill:

Good comments from Akos. Love the colors. Yes, large perch, but the lichens and subdued luminosity reduce its impact, as opposed to a bright, bare stick!

On my monitor, I could see a version about 1/4 stop brighter, but works well as is.

    Cheers

I am not bothered by the size of the perch but the squarish crop is not my favorite, just a personal thing, all in all, the bird looks well exposed, sharp and it´s giving you an interesting pose. The size of its toes/feet are impressive! you gotta love that yard! :)
