Have just bought a used 100 f 2.8 USM macro lens and am experimenting with home made flash diffusers. I do this every year in the hope that one day I will get it right. This is a concave diffuser using a polystyrene container that my wife brought home with shrimps in. We ate the shrimps!

Canon 7D Mk 2. Canon 100mm f 2.8 USM Macro. Nissin i40 flash. Home made flash bracket and diffuser.

    1/160 @ f 14 Auto ISO 1600.

I love poppy seed heads, and this is a great use for one! I love the fly and the colors. A diffuser is a diffuser -- one with humble origins can be just as good as a store-bought one. Can even be a lot better -- it's all how it's set up. This one looks great!

I think you indeed got it right. Wonderful rich colors and excellent depth of field.

Everything about this image just works for me. Strong subject and perch. Iridescence on the wings! Sharp where it should be. Complementary colors in the BG. Well done!
