Default Black-necked stilt in flight (another example with 400 DO II)

I photographed this black-necked stilt at a local park last week. It is in breeding plumage. The severe drought in California has driven most raptors away from this area so it's mostly these shorebirds that are around although in smaller than usual numbers....
the stilts aren't the easiest subject to capture in flight...

1D-X with 400 DO II + 1.4X III. ISO 1000. 1/3200sec at f/5.6. hand held. It is extremely easy to hand hold this lens! processed with DPP 4.15

    Hope you like it

    Arash:
Crisp, well exposed, nice extension of wings and tail.

How do you find the results of this combo vs the 300 2.8 with 2.0 TC? Weight differences?

    Cheers

Hi Randy, it is lighter, shorter and narrower than the 300 II + 2X III. since the front element is not a conventional fluorite glass the center of mass is in the middle of the lens making it very easy to hand hold.

a sneak peak from my review to be published soon

Great looking top side view Arash and I like the good eye contact. The light angle looks perfect also with little shadows showing. Looks like the DO could be a great combo for BIF stuff. I'm sure it's way easy to HH after shooting with our 600s. I am interested to try one out. See ya soon
