Royal Terns at Fort de Soto. The fellow with the fish offered it to many females, many of whom tried to accept it, but he was strutting his stuff and not passing it to anyone.
MarkIII 500mm with 1.4 TC. ISO 400, f8@1/1600. Exp comp +2/3.
some tough light Susan, look at those shadows.
Very nice angle/comp and super feathers on the female...all around I like it very much, esp with the little narrative you gave.
Great behavior shot Susan! You got a great exposure preserving both the blacks and the whites. I like the fact that you've got eye contact with the two birds and the fish! I'm interested in your response to Axel's question. Thanks for posting!
Doug and Axel, I went +2/3 because of this: I wasn't too concerned about the whites. The brightness of the surrounding sand kept the meter honest. I was, however, interested in getting detail in the blacks, especially showing the eye. I kept going + as long as the histogram told me I wasn't blowing the whites. Truth be told, I ended up going -.5 in CR. I will be posting some black skimmers on bright white sand at the same location. I really had to up the exposure to get the blacks in line on those.
Love this one Susan and the action you captured here is priceless. Excellent exposure and composition as well as excllent detail. Love the ruffled feathers on the tern on the left and of course the little fish puts it over the top. Great work !!!
