    Terrific soft lighting and BG.
The Focus is enough for me, the beak would have been great, but the eye to eye is cool....
    Nice work...

Pretty good that you got it that sharp with only 1/800th of a sec. I don't mind the motion blur but a faster SS would have stopped things even better and might have kept the beak sharper but darn good the way it sits. The nice soft colors of this female look great against the green BG.
Well done and welcome to BPN

I think the reason the beak is OOF is due to the angle of the bird's head and not enough DOF to cover it. Would love to have had the head/bill parallel with the focal plane and then the image would have been fabulous.
It is still very nice image nevertheless so you've done very well Karen! The exposure looks good and so does the BG!
    Thanks for sharing!

Big, warm welcome to BPN, Karen. You sure started out with a bang with this hummer image. Love the two-tone BG and it matches the bird so nicely. The head is tack sharp and full of lovely details. Love seeing those tootsies hanging.

Thanks to each of you for your warm welcome and constructive critiques. What a refreshing experience!

I'm better than I was several years ago, but not as good as I'd like to be!

Hi Karen, a big welcome to BPN, and enjoy the ride. A great close up of this HB, and I feel the head is nice and sharp. I do like the colours on this lady, and the colours in the BG compliment her nicely.

    Welcome to BPN!
The BG compliments this HB perfectly.
Agree on a bit more SS for the bill but I like the amount of wing blur.

Very nice sharpness and hummer. Welcome on board! For me the image has the right amount of wing blur.

Hi there Karen, welcome to BPN!! Very nice "in your face" hummer image to start off your journey here! Nice details, great BG. Perhaps a tad large in the frame for me, I'd give it a bit more room in front as the comp is a bit "boxy" IMO. Anyhow, great start, and looking forward to more form you!!

    Hi Karen!

Wonderful image of this avian species and I love the pose! Nice detail on the head and chest, eye contact a great bonus. I like the colours and the BG, very much. Also the blur in the wings...

I cannot wait to see your next post, this was such a pleasure to view - keep them coming please!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
