Huge beautiful Black eyed Susans grace the gated entrance to some far distant mansion. I pass these every time I go to town and finally had to grab my camera. The owner did drive in while I was there and had no problem with me outside the gate.
Nice to know I don't look like a suspicious type !

Processed in my new favorite, Topaz Impressions. This time in impasto. Back in PS I applied some hue/sat adjustments and some selective painting.

I really like the effect that the Impasto filter had on the texture and tones of the petals. I keep wishing that the centers of the flowers on the left were as in sharp focus as the one on the right (but maybe that's because I'm getting into focus stacking!)

Great color and composition. It's nice that there are three centers, and -- because of the impasto effect -- I don't really mind that those two on the left aren't in focus. The impasto is wonderful for these.

Not too mellow. Love the yellow. I don't mind the OOF centers. I really like the textures on the flowers, I wonder about getting rid of the two shorter petals in the ULC. I really like the sense of motion and movement from the petals and position of the flowers.

Thank you all! Wendy, I can understand now that you are into focus stacking how an image like this would be a good possibility. Jackie, I really hadn't noticed those intruding petals until you pointed them out. Good suggestion.

Hi, Nancy, I love the impasto treatment and the composition. I like the fact that the two centers are oof and at first I wondered about the petals in the left corner but decided I liked the way they balanced the image. I keep saying I'm going to get Impressions and now that I'm back and settling in hopefully I will find a bargain or discount and go ahead and get it!

Great flower image. Love the colors! It looks as if you had put a texture over it, maybe a modified duplicate of the image, but you don't mention having done this. Whatever you did, I like the textures in the petals very much. Maybe it is the Impasto. Clearly, I'm going to have to buy Impressions. Like Nancy, I've been waiting for it to go on sale. Here is a person, a photographer in the camera club I belong to, who offers a 15% discount. http://justbobimages.com/discounts/

I, too, noticed the ULC petals. My approach was to use the paint brush at 27% opacity and using the orangy color to paint over them. I also painted over the green areas, and a touch on a petal on right side. But, these are minor issues, and I love the image as it is. Very painterly and alive. I love how the flowers fill the frame. Well done.

Glad to know you fared well stopping to photograph outside the gates. I am often tempted to do the same. Maybe I'll try it sometime.

The more I look at this image, the more I like it. I think it would make an excellent print.

Paul, Cheryl & Anita - Thanks! Appreciate the comments. You can use impressions like a texture with the blend modes, etc.

I like your composition of multiple flowers and the vibrant colors. Thanks to your post, impasto has been added to my lexicon. I too must try Impressions.

The owner of the mansion needs a HUGE canvas print of this! It is really beautiful and very well done. Anita took it from a 99 to a 100.
