Spotted this guy at the lake. I wonder how common the color/pattern variation is in skunks in the wild, anyone know?

Sum puddy tat:) Lets see, get lower, closer:D:eek:

Cute image!!!! Love the little face! Looks like some harsh light? You did well with that too. Hum..just looked at the time taken and light shouldn't have been harsh? Doesn't look like soft light either?

Color variations are pretty common in the wild

Hi, Nonda, thanks for the comments ( you're right on) and info. I've never seen a skunk with any significant color variation. Light can still be kinda harsh that late around here, esp. shining on that white fur (which looks yellow in this pic but pure white in some others)....you know, I left the car and followed him on foot, got pretty close and lots of shots, forgetting that there is a minimum focussing distance to be aware of on my lens ( a little excited) .....most shots were oof! Also, was a bit leery of being sprayed - he raised that tail a few times....mostly he just didn't want to be bothered though, and for a skunk, was moving fairly fast and steadily.

Beautiful animal Anita !!! The basic exposure there is sort of interesting !!!

Since you are photographing lots of grass the reading would be zero with a little under for the light fur..... but the animal is taking up a considerable space in frame and influencing the meter closing. This is one I would turn to manual, make a good one and lock the exposure.

The little guy is hard to photograph since he is close to the ground. Need to get down to its level !! Excellent catch !!!
