I managed to capture this from my car whilst driving through the glen. These birds are real difficult to get close to in Scotland, so I was happy and surprised when he never flew off as I stopped the car

    Thanks for looking

What a fancy looking bird and such a beautiful setting. This is such a killer image that I hate to nit pick, but in an ideal world a bit of the feet would be visible.
Is this full-frame or do you have just a bit more room all around? I'd try to extract some more detail out of the cheek whites.
All that nit-picking aside, I'd take this in a heart beat!! Lovely work Will.

An attractive image William, excellent crest on the head. Excellent background. Pretty good head turn and nice feather detail. Wish the feet were visible.

    Hi William
A very fine image of a favourite Scottish bird.
Last time, I have a fine memory of these was @ Aberlady Bay in September 1988 where there was a very large flock and quite a bit of noise !!!

Hi Wil, great low shooting angle, together with a good angled pose. Excellent exposure, and I really like the colourful iridescence on the wing. Crazy raised crest, and agree seeing the feet would have taken this over the top. I feel your comp is spot on.

Not a easy bird to expose for but it looks good to me ,all the right tones and colour....only crit I would say is that with the eye naturally looking left to right and all the other elements going that way I would like to have seen the bird heads looking out of the frame, just a personal opinion ....

Absolutely wonderful shot, Will. Beautiful bird, nice foreground and smooth colorful background. I would have left just a tiny bit more canvas at the top.

    Wonderful capture Will,

Very well exposed, superb colours, great sharpness and detail. Love those fine feathers on top of its head:)

Nice point of view and I like the pose, in fact I like everything about this - super capture, this is one species I have not seen yet on BPN - thank you so much for sharing!

Second all the above, William. Great spotting, stopping without the bird taking off, super light and detail. Well done.

    Hey Will
THe only thing I'd do is crop the broken tip of the twig back. Otherwise, a mighty fine image mate. Really lovely, soft lighting. Just how I like it.
    TFS and well done mate!

Beautiful under-rated bird that shines in the right light, and you've shown off the colours very well here, one of my favourites from you Will
