As promised, another experiment. This time no canvas added, no cloning, no special effects, and that blade of grass still there on the little rhino's horn despite this great urge I have to take it out...Overexposed to a great degree and went for a more contrasty look on the rhino, tried to add more structure and achieve that wet look in those places where caked mud still clung to their skin.
Just playing around, looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions, thank you so much for viewing...This is FF by the way:)

Hi Gabriela ! I liked the previous version over this one . If the Baby rhino would have tilted its head more towards the mother than the frame would have not felt tight , certainly i prefer the sepia one !
I agree about the baby rhino. I just processed this in a different way and wanted to share, busy experimenting some more:)
Interesting how much one can do with an image despite the absence of colour. Will try not to bore you with more rhino images though... I have something else in the pipeline...
Have a super evening, many thanks for viewing and comments
Hi Gabriela - I agree with Haseeb and also prefer the other image. The head angles and spacing aren't as good here. As to the conversion, I feel that the dirt, dried mud and bg are too bright and similar in tone. A bit more tonal variation might improve the image. Looks like this was a good sighting though.
Thank you very much, and I totally agree with you about the spacing - I just loved the flying ears of the little one, had to share. As I go through my folders looking for something interesting I try to edit those which are at least worth posting in terms of content/action. Just wondering - should I take off from the left and add canvas on the right, would this work better for you? More or less like the previous image. I will try, if it doesn't I shall move onto something else:)
Regarding PP work, I am glad to hear your opinions because I am trying different things. Here I wanted the rhino backs to "disappear" into the white of the BG - it seemed like a good idea at the time:) I was also trying to emphasise the mud and give those patches of skin a more "wet" look.
If you are prepared to put up with my experiments, I will post more...
Hi little sister ..... keep trying to experiment and show us your visions /views .
You will never know if this will meet other people expectations , until you publish them !!
I quite like the overall idea of your thoughts , it does work together nicely for me , for me only the way you sharpened the image is a bit overdone to me , resulting in some crunchiness in the HL . Plus i do find the calf a bit tight to the frame border .
Tones do look good to me though .
Keep the rhinos coming ... TFS your Nitty picky being very calm today as i have to come back onto track after that break , LOL !
I cannot tell you how happy I am to read your comments:)
I do agree with the tightness on the RHS but decided not to add canvas, at least not for now. I will look into the crunchiness, easy to go back to the tiff and sharpen at less percentage, thank you for pointing that out.
So glad you had a break, we all need it from time to time. We are off to the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi this coming week-end, by the way. The light is awesome there in the afternoons, we'll be travelling all the way to the Umfolozi side and staying the night in a lovely spot with only a few chalets, close to the river. Wish you could join us!
I am planning to share more of my experiments, be it B/W or colour images. Decided this month is "playtime" for me, hope to hear your always honest and straight-to-the-point feedback, it is so much appreciated - thank you Boet!
HI Gabriela
This one does not work for me with the large contrasting light BG just overpowering the image.
The previous one is a butt-kicker in comparison.
