    Default RED LIGHTHOUSE-THEME

The lighthouse was near our camp ground in Holland, Michigan. My wife and I were attending our grandson's high school graduation from nearby Grandville High. PP include Nik CEP4 Contrast Color Range, Tonal Contrast and Detail Extractor. A 2-lil-owls texture was applied which softened the image. A light poster edge enhanced detail and a light vignette was applied to the upper corners.

Very nice composition and processing. I like the image because of the subject as well as how it looks. Although the orange structure and the blue fence fit the color theme, I'd be inclined to diminish them one way or the other and let the lighthouse carry the show.

I really like this one Gary, The colours against the bg really stand out. Good job with the perspective too.

I love the intensity of this image. The great lakes have Great lighthouses that are often missed! Good work!

Love the boldness of the lines of the lighthouse and the deep, eye-catching red! The straight lines of the pier & the fairly plain sky add to the great composition that totally supports the emphasis on the lighthouse. I would probably make that orange structure invisible as it does pull some attention away from the drama of the lighthouse. That bench at the end of the pier adds a nice touch and I am good with the blue fence.

I had to think about this one for a day. Cropper that I am, my first instinct was to say, "crop it in so that you're focusing on the building!" but I held off and began to look at it more closely. Now, I say, keep it as it is! The long line of base balance the vertical of the building/flagpole. Those little touches of color--the far left red item, the red ladder (?) going into the water, and the red of the flag give a triangle that echoes the triangle of the lighthouse's windows. A triangle within a triangle, if you will, all set on a firm base. Nice

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions. Nancy and Dennis, initially, I rather liked the bright orange object. It certainly did catch one's eye. After removal, I must admit it did need to go. There were two small blue and orange objects near the left edge of the image which have been eliminated or give a bg color. I will stick with the blue fence. It is within the immediate area of the subject and to my eye is not distracting. Hazel, thanks for sharing your thought process while evaluating the image. I clearly see the triangle. With the groups help I am slowly learning a bit about composition and art in general.

Looks good. If this had been the original post, I don't think I'd have had a second thought about the blue fence.

I didn't read any of the comments before writing this but don't really see a big difference between both versions, the building, retention wall and blue fence are all tack sharp and the image fits the theme perfectly. Very nice.

Now after looking above see that the orange steps have been removed

It's your vision. I can see plus/negs on each.
    Like both for different reasons.

Marvelous red and blue colors! I debated the removal of the two colored objects by the left piling, and decided I prefer them eliminated, along with the ladder/steps. The bench on the right and the piling on the left create a nice frame and balance.
The contrast between the very saturated red and blue with the pale colors of the rest of the image create a bit of a dissonance for me. Perhaps that was your intention. An excellently composed image.
