I believe this is the female that was hooked by some teenagers last week and was rescued
by a volunteer organization from Toronto.

love the pose and low angle plus the chicks, but the IQ isn't there, all heads are soft and lacking in details.

I have to say the images you post from the 7D2 are decidedly soft and lacking compared to the ones from your 5D3. I can tell even without reading the EXIF. Getting this frame sharp should be a piece of cake...I would check the camera.

Thanks Aras, that's what other say. I have already took it to Canon and they said it was OK.
I'm afraid I can't do more than feel sorry that I traded in my much loved 1D Mark IV for the 7D Mark II.

Sorry to hear this. I would personally sell it to get rid of it before the shutter count goes up. Folks who don't shoot birds usually care much less about sharpness and they'll be fine with it as long as you give them a discount.

Worst thing to do is to miss the valuable opportunities using gear that you know will produce soft files instead of the proven 5D3.

Like the subject and as mentioned above the sharp details are missing. Sorry to hear your issues with 7DII. For sure in the case of this photo and FL, the shutter speed 1/400 s could be the main problem. I guess the subject was moving slowly on the water. I own 7DII and 5DIII and for sure on my 7DII in AI servo mode AF is a bit less precise than on 5DIII. Not a big difference but after 10000 shots (macro shots are included as well) I can confirm that. However regarding APS sensor size the needed shutter speed must be higher and must be considered all effects (air thermal differences, IS setup etc). Hope you will resolve the issues.

    Cheers,
    Miro

    Thanks, Miro.
I think I was close to the water surface and it created a shimmer. Also the shutter speed as you pointed out was low.
I also noticed with any camera that moving it out from the car and start shooting, the first shots will be fuzzy.
Also, when the air moves around trees that creates turbulence, the camera including the 5D Mark III+ cannot focus.
There are all kind of disturbances that you have to deal with.
I have sharp shots that I'll post later.

Karl, I don't understand why you'd give up a 1D4 for a 7D2. To me it would be not an option. Arash nailed the IQ issues. It's not a Karl image mate.

Hope you can sort this stuff quickly and get cracking some crackers.

I do like the image otherwise, nice family scene and glad about mom grebe.
