    Default Poppy

I photographed this poppy in my front yard with my new macro lens (which I love!). I kept experimenting with the crop, and finally decided that this one maximized the artistic look of the piece. I tweaked it with CEP ProContrast, and sharpened it slightly. This flower is perfect for the new monthly theme so you'll be seeing more variations of it in the next couple of weeks!

I like the focus (no pun intended) being on the central part of the flower and the petals providing a supporting role. Great colors, too.

Thanks, Paul...I'm pretty sure I was using a tripod in very low wind.

Lovely image. Has the look of a Sea Creature on a coral reef!

As you discovered, poppies make fantastic subjects and that red-orange color is so attractive. This is well seen with the center details surrounded by the papery texture and lines of the petals. If you feel like playing with the cloning tool you could remove the smudgy looking dark spots on the petal slightly right of center behind the center details. They break up the clean color of the petals. Looking forward to seeing more poppies.

I love how the softer petals frame the gorgeously detailed (and colored) center. Well done!

I like the depth you have achieved with your composition and point of focus. The colors are also outstanding.
