It's a good shot of a very colourful bird but something seems not quite right. Because it was only ISO 1000 I am assuming it was a heave crop with a high level of sharpening applied? Also the colours look overcooked - did you boost saturation/vibrance?

Hey Mike, it's likely I botched the processing since I haven't calibrated my screen in a while. It's full frame. I only added a bit of warmth to account for the flash. Sharpening was very, very light handed (smart sharpen, 85, 0.1px).
Moire patterns are seen with this birds plumage typically (at least in most of the shots I took). Thanks for the feedback.

I am not familiar with this species but given the minimal processing, I am prepared to accept that it is a fair representation of what was captured. However, the feather detail on the breast and wing does look a a bit odd. For full frame I would expect to see lots more detail. I am wondering about front focusing as the branch at the bottom looks sharp and in front of the main perch. Regards, Ian.

    Sidarth!
This just jumped out at me and said: "Hello! I am here!"
It's incredibly colourful and just a super nice perch set-up.
Ideally I would love the perch parallel with the sensor so the sharpness is consistent, but it's not a deal breaker.
Well done mate, very well done.

Juan Carlos Vindas should testify to the colours of this beauty, he'd know them well.

Gentlemen, many thanks for your feedback.

Here's a 100% crop of the image with default DPP sharpening (3). Check out the feather patterns and texture.
The individual feathers are visible and sharp I think, but the underlying patterns cause that funky look - especially when downsized.

A different photo of the same species I posted a while ago. Notice the same artifacts visible on the next back, lower part of the tail etc. (and with a different camera)

I did notice that when downsizing, in photoshop I had the sampling algorithm set to bicubic sharper by mistake. That aggravated the artifacts. But not sure what else I can do about these patterns (not switching to Nikon, no ). Here's another 100% crop with a 5D3. Tack sharp I think, but those patterns fully visible.

Killer Image and I love those funky patterns. Your perch and BG were ideal for this subject. Your use of flash is truly great here.

Pretty impressive bird with all these colors. Your peach is well chosen, the BG goes very well with the general color pattern of the image. Very nice!

    hi Sid,
I can see what the previous posters are alluding to, but if that is the way it was then wow ! what a pattern. Maybe you should try it without any sharpening at all.
Love the colors and the perch.
If this perch was preselected then I would have removed the dead brown leaf. My eye keeps coming back to it.
All in all, a lovely image.

As you say, Sidharth, everything looks OK so thank you for taking the time to post the crops.
It really is one colourful bird!

Yep, no problem Sidharth, it certainly looks like the unusual feather detail is causing the pattern I am seeing. Thanks for taking the trouble to clarify - I have learned something interesting today. Regards, Ian

Looks sharp enough to me, just the cool feather pattern that might give that impression. Great looking pose, perch, techs and BG. Very well done Sid.
