    Default Black skimmer- vertical

I added canvas to this image on the top and cropped it to vertical. What do you think?

The vertical presentation works well. Love the flight pose, esp the fanned tail feathers, and your whites look excellent and full of details. I am wondering why you were shooting wide open (@ F4) when you were shooting in full sun?

Excellent banking image, Lorant. Very nice BG and clear detail on Skimmer. Well done.

Lovely shot, DOF doesn't look bad to me, I don't think there would be an enormous difference in DOF compared between f4 and f5.6 but given that the shutter speed was 1/6400sec I suspect you might have been OK to go for a smaller aperture.

    Hi Lorant,

I think you did well to choose the vertical crop to support the wing positions. A horizontal image would probably lack the intenseness of the Skimmer.

A beautiful composition and fine head position pointing just a few degrees towards you.

An excellent exposure and background and the Skimmer looks perfectly sharp to me despite the f4 selection.

    Regards
    Steen

Thank you for the comments. Marina; you are right. Normally I don't shoot wide open, since I don't get the right overall sharpness, but I tried wide open this day for fast action while I was photographing Forster's terns and other skimmers in a darker setting when I went for this simmer.

Excellent banking pose with fanned tail, one of the best poses you can get. Nice details and good exposure, Lorant.

I rarely shoot wide open mostly for DOF as I love to get as much of the bird in the frame as possible. Probably 1/3200th is all you'd need anyway Lori!
I love the pose and the fanned tail too! A spectacular image though in a little strong light. But I'd love this in my files.

    Congrats brother!
