A wonderful capture with great focus! Good work!!

If it's not aready too big a crop, I think you could take a little off the bottom. Other possibilities are to do a gradient darkening from the left, to give some dimension to the tree, and a little desaturation of yellows/greens. I also lightened the head a little, with a soft-edged mask and a Curve (Levels would work, too).

Nice one, my first thought seeing this one was that the little guy was headed for a major impact with that tree! I like the lightening Diane did on the head as well. Nice BG too.

    Hi CM,

I like what you've gone for here, but I'd like to make a couple of suggestions for next time. Using 1/500th to freeze a fast flying small bird like this is too slow unfortunately, you really need to crank up the speed by at least a couple of stops. It may entail a higher ISO, but so be it.

Looking at the shot, you may have been able to make better use of the light by having it come from behind you - if you had taken this more in the open with bright light behind, then you may well have been 'given' the extra shutter speed required, and maybe the face would be lighter and more appealing.

However, all said, this is a tough shot to get right and you have made a good effort, getting a nice wing position

    Mike

Yes, a tough shot. And you did a good job with it. I think Diane's work sharpened it and gave some dimension. That all comes with practice and learning. Stay with the forum and keep posting!
