    Default Buffalo Migration

    Attached Images Attached Images

Not everything in the Mara during Migration season is about wildebeest...
We came across a large herd of buffalo early one afternoon up against the Oloololo Escarpment, with some nice key lighting coming through the overcast clouds.
I will be off to host a wildlife photography seminar with Wild Eye at Sabi Sabi (Sabi Sands Game Reserve) next week, and on family holiday to the Kruger Park the week after - see you all on 15 June!

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s
Nikkor 80-400mm VR (the old one)
    f5.6 | 1/400 SS | ISO-250
I noted the halo, but processed this quite quickly as I'm preparing my seminar presentations...

Hi Morkel, lovely scene here and the sky was captured well. I find the buffalo a bit 2-D and not the main focus here. My eye was drawn to the sky mostly. Loi

Hi Morkel - incredible feel to this image ! The congregation of Buffaloes along with the rays of light makes it a magical image. What is that angular design in the clouds on the top LHS of the image from where the rays are coming out ?
all the best for your seminar and have a happy family outing !!

Hi Morkel - I'm glad you mentioned the halo because it's a strong one. The sky is great but I agree with Loi, the buffaloes feel secondary and a little dark too. Enjoy the Sabi Sands and Kruger.

    Rachel

Yo Morkel!!! Can I come along?

Awesome sighting and what a lovely landscape peppered with life! Love those sun rays bursting in places through the cloudy sky - they light up beautifully that area at the base of the hills - this is what truly makes this image IMO.
When you return from your trip please tell me what is that upturned V on the LHS in the sky - looks a bit like an UFO - is it a reflection of sorts? Don't mind the halo that much - I just love the scene overall, well seen and captured Morkel, very impressive!

Have a wonderful trip filled with fun and sightings,

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

That's a hair on the sensor
Like I said, went too quickly with this one haha.
That hair was a problem on this trip so I'll need to check most files I process from this folder for it.

Aaargh, not to worry Morkel, still an awesome shot - was just pulling your leg, thought you'd only read this when you got back from the trip and had a giggle:)

Last week I had to send my D4 to Nikon for cleaning, LOL - could not believe the dust bunnies I got in just one trip in the local game reserve, all because I just ain't got enough bodies for those lenses...Love your work - always inspiring, hope you enjoy your trip and bring the "goods", keep the sun behind you and watch out for the shadows...kidding again... hey, I haven't forgotten how you dragged me to BPN - I have learnt so much since, and still learning!!!

Wishing you happy days, chat soon

Perfect capture, Morkel. Beautiful defused light in foreground, striking rays of sunlight in the BG. Like the groupings of buffalo interspersed throughout the plane.

I kind of feel that the buffalos are a little too small in the frame. A few larger ones, closer to you, would have given a really nice feel for me anyway.
The light coming through is impressive and is what the image is about though.
    Great work mate.

Have a couple of awesome weeks Mork!
