    Default Foxy lady

Foxes tend to be extra shy around humans Downunder.
One morning before I dropped into one of my work depots up the central coast about two hours from home, I spent a short while looking for terns and gulls.
None could be photographed, but this incredibly "tame" yet wild foxy lady had no problem allowing me even within the MFD of my 500mm lens (4.5 meters).

I took advantage of the situation and just as the sun rose in the east over the horizon she trotted to the top of a dune and turned around in front of me as if to pose.

It was one of the most wonderful photographic experiences I had to date.

Canon EOS 5DMkIII, 500mm f/4L IS USM, manual mode, ISO 1600, f/8, 1/250th, hand held. Almost full frame.

I like the OOF twigs in the BG, otherwise I reckon it would look too sterile. It could also pass for a snowy shot really I think, though cold as it was that morning, it's still a beach in a temperate environment that never sees snow.

Hi Akos, lovely portrait, spot on exposure, good DOF. The Bg is a bit sterile, but there is not much you can do there. Loi

Good to see you posting again mate!
I love the soft light and tender expression you captured. I think the overall brights could use some toning down via luminosity mask - both on fox and background.
I also detect some magenta on the lady?

A pleasing portrait, I like the background, due to the minimum focus and DOF I suspect the left eye is just a tiny bit soft but those whiskers make up for that!

Hi Akos -- lovely looking animal and nicely framed here ! I just felt that the image is lacking in sharpness and there was a bit of magenta on the coat as pointed out by morkel, just sharpened the image in light room and reduced the magenta also . WDYT ?

Hi Akos - A very nice portrait of this fox. I like the comp. In addition to the very slight magenta that Morkel mentioned, there's a blue cast in the shaded area of the coat that I would reduce but not eliminate. BG doesn't bother me at all. For sharpness, I think I would go somewhere between your op and Haseeb's rp. Looking forward to more wildlife images from you.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Hello Akos!

Lovely capture of this fox and beautiful expression, I can understand why you took so much pleasure taking this image - I hope this lady comes your way again and we get to see more of her!

I like the BG very much as well as framing, a few gentle steps to remove those slight colour casts and a tad more sharpening would bring this up a big notch!

I enjoyed viewing - thank you so much for sharing, keep them coming

    Have a great Sunday,

    Hi Akos

Lovely and special moment captured here!
When I opened the image the first thought was it is a wee bit soft, and the blues need to be reduced.
The BG is no problem for me.
    HH with a 500 @ 1/250th...you are a brave man
    Regards

    Andre.

Thank you kindly for your suggestions.

Silly me, forgot to apply sharpening to the web image. Appreciate the notes on colour cast indeed.

Andre, I tend to shoot mostly hand held (though not at night usually). Even with a 2x and have been getting sharp shots at 1/160th with a 2x and 1/60th with a 1.4x! I like the ease and control of hand holding. Though one day it'll probably catch up with me.
