I apologize for my lack of participation lately, just not feeling creative and it's not something I've ever been able to force myself to be. At any rate, here is something I've been working on for days and I'm not sure I really got what I wanted, but I decided to post it anyway and see what you guys think. I know it won't appeal to everyone, but it is definitely different.
I just finished reading a ten volume series by Roger Zelazny, the "Amber" series. In these books there is a family of magical beings that can shape shift and move between worlds at will as well as cast spells and control primal energy sources. It's sci-fi/fantasy and pretty cool even if very long. I slugged my way through the Dune books too, at least the first 12 of them. This image is my thought about what one of these beings might look like in one of their human forns, moving between worlds and giving off energy. I know it's a little out there...
I used a lot of filters on this one - Topaz Adjust and Clarity, Nik CEP, and Alien Skin Eye Candy at the very least. The cosmic image in the lower half is courtesy of NASA, the Hubble Telescope. The rest of it is my own images, the man being one of the large metal sculptures by Ricardo Breceda installed in the desert outside of Borrego Springs, California.
"It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera... they are made with the eye, heart, and head." - Henri Cartier Bresson
Kerry I know exactly what you mean. For me after 4 years in OOTB I hit a stalemate, when I try to create, it all looks like something I've done before.
Love the composition, would make a lovely book cover. Well done
I think it's effective. The unexpected colors and the figure with lightning are certainly attention-grabbers. When I realized that the image shows the NASA-image world being a discrete part of something larger and that the figure is in both at the same time, the wheels started turning. It took me back to the time in high school when I first grappled with the concept of infinity. All that makes the image a great success in my mind.
I'm glad you said where parts of the image came from as I thought the metal dude was from the large sculptures from Borrego Springs that you have used before. Makes me think of those super beings in Aztec art that came to earth to help build all those amazing structures that seem to defy mere human creations ! I especially like the electric blues and golds and the lighting coming out of his head! Yikes, I could not possibly read a 10 vol series. I fall asleep too easily!
It looks as if this creature in human form is emerging from space and that soon we will see his entire body.
Very well done! The colors work really well. The man stands out against the darker bg. I especially love the lightning coming out of the top of his head or headdress. He does seem to be emanating energy.
