A bit large in the frame. He made a surprise landing almost next to me, and I grabbed a few shots before he took off again. This is full-frame, with very little PP except a small Curves adjustment and USM. He was so close that an aperture adjustment would have given me better DOF had I thought quickly enough.

Great look at this fella, and I like the aggressive stance it took while calling. The blacks look great, and you did a very good job with the epaulette's colours. I may eliminate the spots that form sort of a line behind the eye, and I would have preferred the subject a bit lower in the frame. Still well done, these "grab shot" surprise opportunities are often quite fun and rewarding!

Thanks Daniel. The line behind the eye is, I think, a bit of spiderweb, which is either a distraction or added interest, depending on how you look at it. I considered it, and opted for the latter. I did have to tone down the epaulettes just a bit.

Classic territorial calling pose captured nicely, Bill.

I was so admiring this grab shot I forgot to put my compliments to you in writing. Great calling pose, detail, and nicely done on the blacks and epaulets.
