This bird comes and joins me at my little pool/feeder, would be interested in any opinions regarding the reds.
Thanks for looking and your interest on my last Pheasant post.

Hi Keith, I like this a lot, that ruffled plumage is gorgeous as it has the appearance of an open pine cone to me, bet he just crowed just before or after this.

Nice detail & clarity in the red wattles, on the laptop, so not great, however the darks do look a bit choked around the neck, but not a deal breaker and the square format works here. I think you could drop the SS a little, maybe ISO 2500, but I'm really pleased to see you pushing it, the camera can take it and more importantly it's not restricting you capturing the moment, keep it up, well done.

Wow, pretty amazing portrait shot, Keith. The details and colors are just outstanding so is the IQ.
If it had been mine, I wish, then I would have had some more space in front.

I love the rich colours and ruffled feathers. The OOF tree in the BG adds a beautiful touch there. I'm not sold on the comp though...perhaps a bit less a left and a bit more above. I also wish the greens extended all the way through the BG. Very provocative image though, I like it a lot.

    Hello Keith!

Amazing colours and those ruffled feathers make me think of a pineapple! Beautiful capture, love the pose from the subject, nice and sharp and such lovely detail.

Agree with Steve on the darks but not difficult to fix. Regarding crop, I believe you wanted to retain those lovely feathers and therefore composed in this way - not an issue to me, the bird is looking back so IMO not that much space needed on the RHS.

I too like this a lot, thank you for sharing Keith, and very well done with PP work

    Warmest regards,

Great capture Keith. The details are awesome. I like how most feathers show a different shade because of them being ruffled. Nice work

Great feather detail Keith! Interesting pose, nice BG and comp wise I would take a bit off our left but still a beauty as presented.

Great color and details. Separation from the background is very nice. I would tone down the light flower on right side. I would also remove the bright stick under it's beak. That would be a little tricky, but would take this great shot up another notch.

The thumbnail doesn't do this justice,
You have received some very good advice and I agree with Daniel about the composition and crop.
    Love, love all those ruffles!

Excellent portrait with awesome details and colours. I don't mind the square crop here. Normally I avoid that format.
