    Nice position and good wing strech There is a weird red halo surrounding the bird and it is more pronounced around the legs

    I was noticing same thing John.....almost like a bleeding of color. Most notable on bird's rt wingtip.
    The smoothness of the feathers combined with all the water surface highlights make a bit soft vs busy type image.

    RAW?
    which converter?
    I have sometimes gotten that bleeding with red/yellows using ACR

    This was an older image when I was trying a new.different workflow in CS3 and must have done it with this image and didn't realize it. It messed up a lot of my images. sorry!
    The viewfinder is my guidance.

    Great pose captured. Adding to the other comments I would sharpen the bird a bit more and run NR on the upper part of the BG. It is a bit tight in the frame for my taste. Maybe you can add some canvas if you have.
