    Default Family of Elephants

Black and White photograph of a Family of Elephants at a waterhole. Another image that I felt the sky was boring and bland and needed enhancement. So combined with another image of a sky.

Hi Peter - Nice gathering of the herd. To anthropomorphize - it looks like they are celebrating something. Conversion works well. Only thing I would do since you have already swapped the sky is to remove the tree creeping in on the ulc.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Peter, B& W works well here and love the celebration. Your sky looks so believable and I wouldn't be able to tell had you not said so! Loi

Hi Peter , how does it feel with somewhat limited equipment when looking back at the good old times with the heavy stuff .... LOL.
Do you go along nicely with the small kit , and more important are you still shooting wildlife with the new stuff ?

Regarding the image i really like the conversion with a ton of different shades of grey . Nice comp and adding the sky might have helped the image for more impact , not my style though .
Good timing in capturing this behavior , i do agree with Rachel regarding the things in ULC.

    Nice one , TFS Andreas

Hi Andreas . No regrets regarding the change to mirrorless , I am probably shooting more than I have shot before, but at the moment I am taking a small break from long Wildlife treks in bush as I t would mean leaving my new born son at home. So I am concentrating on other projects closer to home. Will resume my Wildlife journeys next year when my boy is older. agree about the tree in ULC... so thanks Rachel.
thanks for taking time out to Comment...

    Hello Peter,

Your B/W conversions appeal to me tremendously and this frame is certainly no exception. What I love most - apart from composition and that awesome sky - is the way in which you brought out so many textures and shapes without overdoing things during processing.

It all looks quite effortless but I guess it wasn't. Took my time to look carefully and see where the light comes from and how it "shapes" the subjects, where the shadows are, how they contribute to this dramatic feel of the image overall. This is beautiful, Peter. I think I have learnt a few more things about B/W just by pausing a little and trying to understand how you achieved this, thank you so much for sharing.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Peter - Delightful scene , love the B/W versions of Ele's . the dust provides the image a mystical feel ! was the bird in the BKG part of the blended sky or was it part of the original scene ? just asking out of curiosity :)

Delightful moment, Peter, and sensitively/artfully converted. Nice work on the sky - I do agree with Rachel on taking out that tree too since you already took some creative license.
Glad to hear you're still enjoying your photography my friend! I just love taking the kids along to the bush, so the time will come for you.
