I was out at a small loch yesterday morning, where I was photographing a dozen or so Black Headed Gulls which were upto allsorts of antics. This one was attempting to catch something just below the surface Gave me a great photoshoot with these lovely gulls

Thanks for looking and for the comments on my WTE image. Much appreciated.

Great timing, interesting capture with the gull ready to crash into the water. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting Will, just not sure about the crop. I also feel there is more to extract from the image to help build on the form & detail within the subject.

The action is pretty cool, and the low angle that you gave yourself works wonders and really helped isolate your subject. I like the bill just touching the surface - talk about split second timing (thank goodness for high speed bursts!!). I do feel the gull's face is suffering from subject movement blur. The Ring-billed Gulls over here do this type of behaviour too and only rarely can one properly freeze them at 1/1000s.

Thanks for the comments guys Here is a tighter crop on the head, and yes, comparing it to the sharpness on the legs, there does seem to be a little motion blur.

    Great action Will.
I did look earlier and noted the head softness just had no time for commenting as I was getting ready to go to work.
I am surprised at your choice if ISO selection. I have been doing a lot of shooting recently with a friend's 5DMkIII and it handles really well to ISO3200 and even higher as long as exposure is pushed right and you do some good NR in post.
You should have been at least at ISO1600 here IMHO and you would have had no noise issues.
Something for you to consider mate. :)
Wish I could catch this action myself though.
