Hi Charlene - You did well with a somewhat slow ss for a wild dog on the run. Dof is good. Is this ff? I would prefer a little more room below and to the left but it's not always easy to compose when they're on the move towards you. They love to use the roads to move quickly too.
Don't forget to give your thoughts on others' images too.
I love seeing the close up details in your photo of the wild dog. I think they are beautiful animals and appreciate the difficulty of getting a good shot at this straight on angle. Well done.
Hi Charlene, good frontal portrait. These guys are so long legged, no wonder why they are long distance runners. Agreed with Rachel on having more to the left and bottom. Loi
There's probably not much you can change in terms of composition, I guess this chap was moving fast and you probably did not have enough time to compose - I still love it as is:)
Was this image processed in LR, or Photoshop, or both? Can you tell us a bit about your processing steps? The only issues I would like to point out might have something to do with processing, the blacks appear a little chocked (nose and eyes) and there's a faint amount of magenta on the muzzle. The eye colour also a bit "strong", IMO. I am just guessing here...perhaps you might have used the contrast tool, or pushed levels a bit too much? I feel you can get much more out of this image in terms of detail, it is indeed very special and definitely a keeper. Great POV and that determined look on the subject's face really grabs me as a viewer, you really made the best of this opportunity - well done Charlene, I cannot wait to see your next post!!!
Hi Charlene - I find painted dogs to be the hardest to photograph from a vehicle, given their size and their swift movement. Doing it on foot is a different thing and highly recommended (you'd have to go to Zimanga or Mana Pools to do so). That being said, the awkward pose/angle and the off-balance composition don't help this image IMHO. I'd like to see more from this sighting, though?
Hi Morkel, thank you for the feedback.I hear what you say and I have posted the same dog just a frame before this one .I have looked at all the advice ,can you please look at it and see if it is an improvement.
I would appreciate it and any other photographer is also welcome.
