    Default Northern wheatear

A very local bird to me this year, although this shot took me a full days wait, I did have the owl to keep me occupied for part of the day but I just took a gamble that the bird would re-land in this spot after noticing that it favoured it taken with a loaned 500mm (thanks mike) and my 1d mkiv ISO 400 F5.6 +2/3 EV 1/320 sec , I am aware that they could be a few rouge dust bunnies knocking around as well in the background,i missed this bird the last two years and this year the bird was on my to get listwheatear may 5th (1 of 1) by dennis greenwood, on Flickr

Thanks John for the kind comment, I have just come back from one of my little owl sites I now have four sites ,three are established but one site just as a lone owl,not sure of sex as most times I can only tell in breeding season, just don't have much time nowadays especially as I have a good kingfisher spot were the birds are due any day now to start feeding the young ,one thing I have noticed John that may be of some interest to you as I know you have some knowledge of the little owl is that one site actually overlaps two males in a territory

Beautiful colours, sharpness and sense of presence of the bird. Perhaps a bit off the top and a bit more of the rocky perch would be even better. If you like plain backgrounds that's a very good one. Personally I prefer at least something to give a bit more of a sense of habitat, but I know that's just a personal preference. Overall a very fine image.

Really nice. I agree with Richard re:crop and a bit more perch.
    Nice light and good IQ.
You already know about the dust bunnies as you stated so you should clean them up.
I could see a version with the green desaturated slightly.

way too tight in the LRC for me. But, a really beautiful, well detailed shot otherwise.
I don't even know what a wheatear is!

I like the pose, HA, details, sharpness and perch. I agree with more needing a bit more perch. Very well done Dennis.
