Hi Loi - Very fitting image for Mother's Day and a really nice look at the family grouping. Great to see such a little one. Excellent texture and detail. The dof works well as does the pano comp. If it were mine I would apply a lumo mask to tame the highlights slightly at say 34-40% opacity.

    Rachel

Loi, this is so thoughtful of you! You just reminded me to call my Mom and wish her Happy Mother's Day...

This is a very sweet scene, with baby ellie so tiny (looks barely a few days old), trying to keep up the pace with mom and sibling, wet up to his ears from bathing in the river:)
Well exposed, natural looking colours, sharpness spot-on. I like the space in front of the Proud Mother and the composition/presentation - well done Loi, I take it you had a super time at Mala-Mala, great work and I cannot wait to see more images from this trip

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Hi Loi,

very nice image with the group. I like the pano crop in here. Some stuff said already above. What I might would turn down is the sharp BG. Not sure if you did overall sharpening or selective!
    Have a great eve

    Ciao Anette

Hi Loi, what a beautiful scene you got here. Excellent habitat in the BG (the wide angle field of view really was worth it here), and all three elephants gave you nice poses. I'm sure you did not freeze your fingers and ears for these African images eh!

Gabriela, yes, Mala Mala was amazing. Had a great time there.

Anette, I applied a little bit of Nik to the sky. You were right, looks a bit too phony, so I cut it down.

Rachel, did try the luminosity mask, but didn't like it. It was a mid day, bright sun, so the scene is pretty much reflecting that time of day.

Daniel, the temp was just perfect, like our California home weather, no need for big gloves and boots.

    Cheers

    Loi

Hi Loi, love it, great 'cute' factor for me, and I really like the comp.

Might be missing something here regarding the sky, looks good to me, have you ever thought about using a Polariser Loi? Depending on what you wanted to achieve, you may find PS might be better than NIK??

    Steve,

had a circular polarizer on my 70-200 when the elies were on the other side of the river. Barely managed to swap out the 70-200 for the 16-35 when they began to cross, and had to make a quick decision, so I decided to leave good enough alone and not miss the shots. A polarizer would have made the sky more interesting for sure! Thanks for suggesting. Loi

If when it works, it works well if you have the sun correct, the only issue is Canon have changed the diameter of the 70-200 & 16-35f/2.8, requiring different sized filters!!!

Steve, get the 16-35F4. It uses the same 77mm filter and is tack sharp.

Sadly Loi the f2.8 was bought last year to replace the old one, as Canon ran out of spares.

BTW have you tried shooting at higher ISO's with your dogs yet? Drop me a line when you do, be good to know how you get on, although I'm back out shooting after tomorrow so may not be an instant reply.

Steve, have not. I have pushed the 1DX to ISO-3200 when I need to and am happy with the results. Have not done much at ISO-6400, but will try sometime soon. Loi

Cool elephantscape in crisp morning light Loi.
I agree a polariser would have been nice, but understand the call you made.
The little one adds heaps to the photo...
