    Default Burrowing Owl

    Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, EF 600/4L IS + 1.4xTC, 1/800s f/7.1 ISO400, cropped from horizontal

This is a very brave owl who built its burrow right next to a paved road, so it became a very easy target, just drove by, and took a picture :)

Interesting place to build but does not sound very safe. Very striking image Jai and I love the alert pose and the inclusion of the surrounding habitat. Well composed and wonderful head turn and eye contact. On my monitor it looks like a tad more contrast is needed, Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to BPN! I like the setting, soft light and inquisitive look. The bird looks a bit soft on my monitor. Keep them coming!

Welcome Jia! Very nice composition; I like the way the plants in the BG bend around the owl's head. Agree with Axel about the bird looking a little soft. Thanks for posting!

Off to a good start, Jia. I enjoy the composition here - the hillside angled one way and the grasses the other. It emphasizes the owl's straight up / alert posture. Other helpful crits have already been posted.

Big Welcome to BPN Jia !!!

Wishing the best luck for that bird !!! I like the bird placement in frame and the bg Different to what I normally see and appealing. Would give it an extra usm pass as suggested !!! Looking forward to many more !!!
