    When I heard this fella "booming" in the reeds I put on the audio to see if it would approach. After a few seconds it took flight and offered a couple of quick opportunities before going back down.

    Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, added canvas left and below.

    Very nice image. Sharp and in focus where it needs to be with a superb background. We have Least Bitterns here but they are a nightmare to find much less to get close to. Someday, someday! :)

    Wow Dan, do I wish this image was mine :). Cracker shot and superb BG. The far wing could have been better positioned i.e. giving a clearer view of the head but this really doesnt distract from what is the best image of this bittern I have seen.

    Hi Daniel stunning flight shot with a very pleasing BG .
    Like the color palette and the overall tones and contrast , if this was mine i might sharpen it a fraction more .
