One of our camera club's competitions this year focused on shadows, and this is the image I submitted. I took the image on my phone, and once I imported it to PS, I converted it with one of the sepia filters in NIK Silver Efex Pro.
The composition, the sepia, and the rolling land all work well, but the strong shadows from the wooden fence are the stars of the show. In addition to being a strong graphic element, the give a great feeling of depth and emphasize the topography. They also provide a nice counterpoint to the vertical lines of the trees.
Wonderful how you captured the complete fence shadow all the way back to the distant trees! I like how the shadow is clearly the dominant feature and yet you nicely included & processed all the other details, such as the vertical trees on both sides of the fence. I think you chose a very good time of year when the trees were still skeletons and leafless, giving the image a strong graphic impression.
Thanks, all! Nancy...I don't think I even realized until I transferred the image from my phone to my computer that the fence shadow extended so far into the distance!
Excellent example of shadows and light--the fence, the trees. I agree with Dennis about the nice combination of strong horizontal and vertical lines. Lovely tones.
