    Default River Crossing

Hi Everyone, just came back from a wonderful trip to Mashatu and Mala Mala. The flight back was evry long, so I had time to sort thru all of the images. Now looking on the big monitor, and I'm happy to post a few.

We saw this herd of elephants across from the river foraging and drinking. Our guide thought they might attempt to cross and positioned the vehicle a little bit ahead of the herd. I had always wanted to take images of a herd of elephants with a wide angle lens, but have failed to get anything decent in the past. So I'm very pleased to see the resulting image.

Applied a little bit of Nik to get more details on the sky, added some saturation.
    No NR or sharpening.

Thank you for your comments in advance.

Hi Loi - Welcome back and I'm looking forward to seeing your images. I really like this and it is very effective with the wide angle. Love that it includes elephants of all sizes. Looks like the light was bright but you handled it well. The pano crop works nicely. You might consider cropping at the space before the last adult so that you have a clean right edge but not a deal breaker.

Hi Loi, I would echo Rachel's thoughts & suggestions. I think the tad of saturation has helped, but it may have also created a bit more of a deeper shadow too on the subjects? Love the little guy in the front, so tiny.

Your call, but I might take timeout before embarking on any large scale PP, your head will be swimming with stuff and you may edit with a slightly cloudy vision???? You will already know the best, just a thought.

    Cheers
    Steve

Hi Rachel and Steve, you are both right regarding the crop. I had tried it before, but was not happy with the odd tree in the background, but I think it is less of a distraction than cutting off the elies on the right. Here is a repost.

Steve, yes you are right regarding not to rush in with massive editing. I will go slow on the images that I think have the most potential.

This river crossing is the first of the posting and I would like to have feedback before doing a print for my wife :).

Hi Rachel, this image was taken around 10AM, the sun was high, so nothing I can do much about the shadow.

Steve, I only applied a little of Nik to the sky, not the elies.

Loi - I think the comp of the rp is better. Btw it was Steve who mentioned the shadows not me. I think this will make a very nice print for your wife.

Great work Loi - was watching some of your moments on FB and enjoyed "safariing" along with you.
This works a treat, and the cropped RP is better/stronger IMHO. I would also consider a slight CW rotation - even though it may just be an optical effect it looks as though it's slanted slightly to the left?

Hi Rachel, don't know what it meant by "your thread was locked". No idea. I assume unlocking it is good.
