Hi Paul
And a good post it is too! Everything spot on. My only wish would be for more space around the bird. But it is a great picture-whites especially spot on. I am sure you will enjoy the forum. I have heard it called one for the "big" boysbut I can assure you its not like that! You will enjoy it
John
Mr. Robinson,
Thank you for the feedback and kind words... As for the space, the Snowy was hopping/jumping around like they sometimes do and the right wing as viewed, is right up against the top of the picture... so I ended up with a tight crop the way you see it...
Respectfully,
Paul Flickner
Hi Paul,
Welcome to BPN, you will surely enjoy spending time here and have the opportunity to learn a lot.
Agree with John - you have a great image here, but it could do with some extra space around it - a bit cramped - in front of the bird, but also right and top - more space for the bird's left wing.
If this was mine, I would push the whites a bit more and brighten the image a bit overall. I hope you don't mind - I have taken the liberty to illustrate this with your image. Everyone has a slightly different view.
Keep them coming....
Gerald
Hi Paul, welcome
This is a very nice shot to introduce yourself with, nice work.
I agree that it could do with a bit of breathing space around the bird, particularly the left wing. If you have a search around here and on Arties blog, then there is loads of info about adding a little bit of canvas in PP. I think it would make a significant difference.
Mike
Hi Paul,
Artie offers a surprisingly easy technique for extending the canvas and you can get away with using it pretty easily here.
Create additional canvas at top - select complete image with crop tool, then use handle to stretch where you want it and allow enough space for levelling.
Copy the relevant part of the image - I included all the way down to just short of the Egret's head - select with rectangle tool, Copy (Cmd C) and paste (Cmd V). (The more of the image you use, the less it looks stretched)
Cmd T for the transform tool and pull the handle up to the edge of the new canvas and Enter.
Then the trickiest bit is to work on the top layer with a soft edge Eraser - taking out all of the stretched part of the Egret's wing. Take some extra care to ensure you have all of the wing off the layer - nothing worse than finding vestiges later on. You will expose some blank canvas - so cover this with a Quickmask patch or use the Clone Stamp - then carefully expose the wingtip underneath agin with the eraser tool. Then just flatten the layers and you're done.
Sounds complicated, but in fact it is really easy. To do top and side here took only a few minutes.
Good luck with it. Gerald
I extended the canvas with PS Fill - Content Aware... and followed the other input... Here are the results:
